Abstract

Aortic dissection is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Mortality is 1-2% per hour in the first 24 hours after the onset of symptoms; and, without surgery, 90% of patients die within the first 3 months. Patients who receive a proper emergency treatment show a hospital mortality rate ranging from 15 to 30%.
